Great group last month – 30 people – our biggest yet. I’ve heard good feedback from attendees, so let’s keep it going this month! As always, we’re hoping to bring in tech people who are entrepreneurially minded, but also potentially interested in the bio space. If you’re interested in bio or biomedical start-ups, we’d like to see you at Bio+Tech.
If you’re interested in bio or tech entrepreneurship, we’re looking for you! The group is kept purposely small to ensure a great collection of individuals.
Please let me know if you’re interested in a specific speaker or topics for future events – happy to see what we can pull together. We’re working on some really interesting individuals, including a co-founder from QB3′s Garage and another leader from Science Commons. Let us know what you think!
About Bio+Tech: San Francisco and the Bay Area has an amazing biotech and bioinformatics community, and it’s time to start cross-pollinating ideas and fields to bring innovations and start-ups. The tech community already has a vibrant networking and meetup community, but the biotech and bioinformatics community isn’t nearly as advanced. Come, introduce yourself, tell the group what you’re working on and what you’re interested in. The rest will evolve from there.
We’ve had some interesting success stories so far – from a couple biotech start-ups connecting with advisors, to a tech start-up being inspired by a neuroscience to design algorithms based on neuro-theory for a social media company. The group is deliberately named “Bio+Tech” to not only have the tech entrepreneurship world here in SF inspire bio based start-ups, but to have science influence and inspire tech designs and companies.
As Bio+Tech evolves I’d like to make sure that it’s founding premise remains strong – that the gathering attracts interesting people interested in biotech (anything from bench science through database experts in informatics labs) and folks from tech who have an interest in biotech and informatics. Trust me, for tech folks, you don’t have to have a solid understanding of biotech to contribute to the conversation and get involved. Chances are you’ll actually influence the conversation more! The premise is to begin to create a community here in the bay area that is modeled after the tech scene and becomes an engine for biotech and life science start-ups.
A bit of background and some thoughts on the meetup.
Part of the philosophy of this meetup is to bring together the best and brightest bio and tech people under the same roof and let the ideas mingle. Ideally, new ideas and ventures will come out of the meetups. The invite list is private – our members are free to invite people who they think can add to the conversation.
